外国语学院成立于2003年，前身为台州师专外语系。学院下设英语教育系、英语系、商务英语系、俄语系与大学外语教学部，有英语(师范)、英语、商务英语、俄语四个本科专业。其中，外国语言文学为台州市重点学科，英语专业为浙江省重点专业，商务英语专业为台州市优势特色专业，英语（师范）专业于2022年通过全国普通高校师范类专业第二级认证。现有全日制在校生1300多人，专任教师92人，其中教授6人，副教授26人，博士22人（含在读）。开设有日、德、法等第二外语。
学院秉承“厚德、明道、求真、笃行”的院训精神，围绕“教学立院，学术兴院，人才强院，和谐荣院”的办学理念，坚持以人才培养为中心。构建了“外语+”复合型、应用型人才培养模式，注重学生语言基础能力、应用实践能力、创新创业能力的培养。学生英语专业四级、八级考试一次性通过率均高出全国平均通过率30多个百分点，就业率达95%以上。
学院设英语语言文化研究所和翻译研究所。外国语言文学为校级重点学科。近三年，教师取得教学科研成果300多项，其中专著、译著、编著30余部，在国家一级权威期刊及核心刊物上发表论文50多篇，完成各级各类科研项目60多项，多人获省市、校级优秀科研成果奖。学院积极为企事业单位提供外语口、笔译服务及外语、经贸知识培训等社会服务。
学院积极与英、美等国高校开展本科及研究生层次的国际合作办学，努力为社会培养具有扎实的专业基础和实践能力、良好的创新意识和国际视野的应用型人才。
School of Foreign Languages was founded in 2003 on the basis of the former Department of Foreign Languages of Taizhou Teachers’ College. Currently, it consists of Department of English Education，Department of English, Department of Business English,Department of Russianand Department of College English. It provides four undergraduate majors: English Education, English, Business English and Russian, in which the English major is listed as a key one in Zhejiang Province. Besides, it offers Japanese, German and French as second foreign languages. It boasts over 1,300 full-time students, and 92 faculty members, including 5 full professors, 26 associate professors, and 22 PhD holders.
Adhering to the motto of “Virtue, Reason, Truth and Action”, the school centers its efforts on teaching and has established the “Foreign Languages Plus” mode—inter-disciplinary and application-oriented approaches to talent training. Great importance is attached to students’ language competence, practical abilities, and innovative & entrepreneurial capabilities. The rates for its sophomores to pass TEM-4 (Test for English Majors Grade Four) and its seniors to pass TEM-8 at their first attempt are both over 30 percentage points higher than the national average ones. More than 95% of its students get employed in the year of their graduation.
The school houses two academic institutions: Institute of English Language & Culture, and Institute of Translation Studies. And Foreign Language and Literature is a key major at university level. The recent three years have witnessed more than 300 items of teaching and research achievements, including over 30 works (written, translated or compiled), more than 50 papers in authoritative or key periodicals, over 60 research projects at different levels and many research awards at provincial or university levels. It is active in providing such social services as interpretation, translation, foreign language teaching, economic & trade knowledge enhancement for various enterprises and institutions.
The school is vigorously extending international educational cooperation at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with universities from the U.K., the U.S. and other countries, and striving to turn its students into application-oriented talents with solid professional foundations, sound practical abilities, strong innovative spirit, and broad global outlook.
